Film Against War Festival
Since February 24, just across our border, in Ukraine, a war has been going on – the bloodiest and cruelest war in Europe since World War II. It has been going on for so long that we are starting to get used to it. It seems that the fervor of opposition that the cruelty of the invaders initially aroused in the world is fading. The repetition of messages from the front, the distance that separates us from the battlefield, the ruins and ashes, and the general stories of refugees blur the sharp contours of the war narrative. More and more often, indifference creeps into our perception of this war and our hearts grow cold… We often don’t even know about other wars… So that the resources of our understanding, imagination and compassion for the victims of war and violence do not run out, we invite you to the Anti-War Film Festival.
The theme of the festival is war in its broadest sense. We want our audience to see it in full focus and from different perspectives, to become aware not only of the atrocities and consequences of war between nations, but also of the actions, phenomena and mechanisms that lead to and fuel conflicts, as well as those that may favor averting them. Both on an international scale and on a family or community scale. In addition to wars that bring blood and fire, the heroes of the festival will be the “wars” of everyday life that take place within us, between us, among us. In both categories, the creator of the best film will receive a festival statuette – the Golden Copernicus. The festival statuette will also be awarded for the best documentary film. The award for the best film about the war in Ukraine is awarded by sponsors.

Justification:
- The award-winning films are strongly in line with the program slogan of this year’s festival – Films Against War. They are of a high artistic and realization level.
- The films show in a very real way the madness of war, which is a source of suffering, where all barriers disappear, but man is left with his ”yes” to life and his opposition to terror.
- The award-winning films are not morality plays, but show that in the dark times of war there is also room for selfless, sincere and pure love, solidarity, compassion and concern for others. It is difficult to move on to everyday life after watching these films. These stories hurt and ask the question – what does it mean to be human?
- Noteworthy is the creative consistency of the directors, who carried out their idea in a non-trivial way, finding the key to understanding and entering into the story.
The Jury, appreciates the work of the Festival Program Board, which made the selection and choice of films for the main competition. It is also impossible not to appreciate the efforts of the organizers, who have found a formula for carrying out a festival of such enormous scope. The Warsaw EDUKINO festival speaks more and more in its own language and shows a wider audience exceptional films that touch on the most important issues, asking us all about the meaning of our lives. And if it is difficult, and suffering and fear are breathtaking – have courage! And for this we thank the filmmakers and the festival organizers.
